    Cyberport Start-up Angel Pitching Training Programme 2016













About the Programme: To help tech start-up owners raise capital by getting them ready for capital raising process and facilitating their introductions to active early stage investors. 


Target: Tech start-ups, who have their project prototype ready and with some early stage customers engaged. Start-up companies just need to pay a commitment fee, and their founders and partners are welcome to join the workshop as well.






Current Business Analysis

v  1 hour one-to-one Skype discussion between Silicon Valley Entrepreneurship Forum and the start-up to understand the status of the start-up

v  To filter the start-ups for selecting those are ready to join the programme

By individual appointment (10 17 December 2015)


Content of the workshop:

v  To develop a strong business model and path to market plan 

v  Understand the whole capital raising process 

v  Identify different sources of capital according to start-ups' needs

v  Know what investors are looking for in a "good" deal

v  To create and deliver a strong elevator pitch

v  How to proceed from the pitch to the deal

Angel Investor / Mentor Matching & Mentorship

To introduce and provide matching service between angel investors / mentors and start-ups. Angel investors can also be the mentors to provide advice and support to the start-ups while their pitching decks are being developed.

One-on-one Skype meeting (at least 2 meetings for each start-up) after the Workshop and before the Pitching Day. Each meeting is at least 1-hour.

Drilling before Pitching Day

To provide practice opportunity for participating companies to do the public pitching.

14:00-18:00 One-on-one consultation; each company in 30 mins)

Cyberport Pitching Day

A demo day would be set up to invite angel investors as judges and to invite the start-ups for 3-min public pitching.  Prizes will be given to the best pitching team.

About the Trainer:

Dr. Yong Liu is a US/China cross-border venture capitalist. He is now Managing Partner of SVTech, a cross-border open innovation network, and Venture Partner of WI Harper Group, a SF based early to https://media.licdn.com/media/p/7/005/0b5/343/14c6eb0.jpgexpansion stage venture capital firm, and Legend Star, the early stage venture fund of Legend Holdings in Beijing. Previously he was head of Lenovo and Baidu open innovation efforts in the US, including strategic investment and partnerships. He served as a key contributor in several cross-border M&A deals including Lenovo-Moto acquisition. He co-founded Lenovo LeFund in 2010, which was recognized as China top 10 angel funds by Zero2IPO in 2014. Currently he invests in early stage tech startups and accelerates their growth through strong and unique strategic resources in both China and US, including partnerships with Lenovo, Xiaomi, Huawei, Baidu, etc. His investment portfolio includes Zaker (largest social media in China), SmartX (Chinese Nutanix), Oculii (Mobileye of radar).

 In his earlier career, Dr. Liu served Samsung Electronics SV R&D center, co-founded Dict.cn, and was an active business writer. He authored 40+ business review articles, 20+ academic papers, and 10+ US/China patents. He sits on the review committee/advisory board of multiple government funds and entrepreneurial programmes in China and US. Dr. Liu holds a B.S. and a M.S. in Computer Science from Nanjing University, and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Indiana University Bloomington. Currently he is the Vice President and board member of Nanjing University Alumni Association San Francisco Bay Area.
