Invitation to join 「當NGO遇上IT人」

Dear All,

You are cordinally invited to join the 「當 NGO 遇上 IT 人」. It is a Support Scheme for Digital Inclusion Apps in January 2014, inviting NGOs to submit proposals for the development of apps to cater for the needs of under-privileged groups, launched by OGCIO.

Details of the Scheme are available in http://www.ogcio.gov.hk/en/business/tender_eoi_rfp/rfp_dia2014.htm.

There is no dispute that IT is a universal enabler. However, for those of us who do not know much about IT and its capabilities, we are unable to identify IT solutions to address the problems we encounter. By the same token, IT practitioners, whilst equipped with knowledge and expertise in developing applications to cater for business ideas, are unaware of areas where they can make themselves useful.

「當 NGO 遇上 IT 人」, which adopts a "speed-dating" format for NGOs to articulate their problems and wants to IT practitioners who may be able to find suitable IT solutions to address such needs, will be organised. It is hoped that this event would be able to generate ideas on how technology can help NGOs achieve their social missions in an innovative and fun-filled manner.

Event details are as follows --
Date: 14 February 2014 (Friday)
Time: 2:30 - 5:00 p.m.
Venue: Multi-function Hall I, 25/F, HKFYG
Building, 21 Pak Fuk Road, North Point

Tentative rundown is as follows:-
• 2:30 - 2:35 p.m. Welcoming Remarks
• 2:35 - 3:00 p.m. Introduction of Technological Solutions (by OGCIO)
• 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. Speed Dating Session (Each IT company takes turns to meet with the participating NGOs to know their business needs and to suggest possible technology solutions to address such needs. Each meeting will be about five minutes. The objective is to pave way for subsequent bonding and matching on their own.)
* Registration starts at 2:00 p.m.

Interested parties please click here to complete the Profile Form and return to the OGCIO by email to pwdspo@ogcio.gov.hk on or before 7 February 2014 (Friday).
Due to limited places, enrolment will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Successful enrolments will be informed by e-mail.

For any enquiries on the event, please feel free to contact Ms Peggy Kwan at 2582 4223 or Mr Patrick Ngai at 2582 4498.

Best regards,

Cyberport Community Cloud is ready now!

Hong Kong Cyberport Management Company Limited (Cyberport) has announced the launch of the first-ever Community Cloud (Cyberport Cloud) in Hong Kong on Nov 4, 2013. The Cyberport Cloud is the first community cloud platform in Hong Kong, offering easy-to-use and self-provisioning Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to all Cyberport tenants, Smart-Space users, incubatees, alumni and subscribers, allowing efficient operations and the ability to expand their business in a more agile, cost-effective and collaborative manner.

A Community Cloud is a collaborative Cloud where users from similar organisations and verticals sharing similar concerns - such as security and compliance – are able to share resources and therefore drive cost-efficiencies through jointly sharing the service.

Easy Integration and Collaboration: addressing shared concerns of the community

Cyberport Cloud enables its users to create a cloud platform that can easily be integrated with their internal network. With the use of SDN (software-defined network), Cyberport Cloud gives each tenant or user its own network topology and control over its traffic flow. Essentially, it will enable businesses to manage the traffic loads of their cloud platform in a flexible and more efficient manner so as to increase productivity. The cloud service helps ease overhead investment budget challenges and offers flexibility for business expansion especially for start-ups. It also manages a hybrid cloud efficiently through a single management platform of all cloud activities and usage for the Cyberport Cloud and other public clouds. For ICT companies demanding high availability, the Cyberport Cloud offers a load balancing service, which allows users to configure virtual and physical load balancers on demand so as to stay responsive to changing needs with high performance and reliability.

With high computing power provided by the 576 CPU cores, the first phase of the Cyberport Cloud is highly scalable and is capable of hosting over 300 resource-intensive applications. To ensure this powerful Cyberport Cloud is environmentally-friendly, a real-time power efficiency monitoring system has been implemented.
